    Guest Reviews

Here are a couple of recent comments from guests who have stayed at Woodpeckers Cottage:

    November 2024
Just returned from a five night stay. It is such a wonderful place to stay. So quiet and peaceful, yet located close to the town of Scarborough for amenities. The cottage was lovely and clean, very well stocked with kitchen amenities, well heated, piping hot water and good internet and television with Amazon and Netflix. The hosts are friendly and helpful. Dog friendly garden. Highly recommended.

    Tips for other Travellers

There are some great off lead dog walks in Bickley forest, Raincliffe Woods and the cinder track from Scarborough to Whitby can be accessed from a number of places. Great pubs locally in Burniston and Cloughton as well as a range of excellent restaurants in Scarborough town. Local supermarket in Newby (Proudfoots) and large Sainsburys and Falsgrave.

Our second visit to the cottage. Went once in 2019 and again this Summer. Such a lovely place to stay. A beautiful location, amazing surroundings and views. The addition of the Summer house is lovely and the children enjoyed playing with the garden toys and looking at the neighbouring horses.

The cottage has everything you need. Lots of essentials eg condiments, toilet roll, cleaning products, foil, cloths, tea towels, towels and bed linen, huge array of utensils, crockery and pots and pans. We didn't want for anything. They even provided washing up liquid, washing powder and dishwasher tablets, a maiden and rotary washing line. Fleece blankets. They had just thought of everything.

The bedrooms are comfy and clean. The front room is spacious with a huge array of games, jigsaws and books to keep everyone occupied as well as a great TV with Netflix and Amazon. Wifi worked well, no drop in signal considering the rural surroundings.

Hosts extremely polite and pleasant and left us to it which was fab.

    Tips for other travellers

    • We used the cottage as a base to visit Whitby, Peasholm park, Scarborough front, Robin Hoods Bay, Flamingo land and Alpamare water park. We will definitely be back again.
    • We parked in car parks everywhere and never paid more than £5/6.
    • In the School hols / weekend we found places got busy around 11/12 o clock so we tried to go early and avoid the crowds.
    • Alpamare water park was pricey but we loved it, outdoor heated pools coupled with great weather made it feels like we were abroad. Whitby museum is fab and well worth a visit.
    • Dalby Forest was a great find, we drove up the back route avoiding the toll road so parked for free and followed one of the walking routes, great views.
    • The post office near by has a lot of essentials much cheaper than the supermarkets but Tesco is only 5/10 mins away if needed. The Rosette pub does good cheap food and kids eat for £1 mon-fri eve ? Just eat and supermarket deliveries are available at the address too ?
    • Highly recommend parking at Ravenscar to do the circular the hayburn wyke and follow the finder track back. Once at Hayburns wyke there’s a great place to eat indoors or outdoors, usually serving food between 11am and 3pm(recommend calling in advance to check times) Harwood Dale is stunning for walks too.
