Scarborough - Things to Do and See

Scarborough is the original seaside resort; stunning scenery, glorious beaches, loads to see and do – is it any wonder that people have been flocking to Scarborough for nearly 400 years now?

You can still immerse yourself in Scarborough's history with Scarborough Castle and the Rotunda Museum of geology. You could venture down to the seafront to enjoy the traditional amusement arcades, ice cream parlours, shellfish stalls and beach huts.

Outdoor adventures can be found in numbers: try boating in Peasholm Park; take a ride on the miniature railway; be daring on the Sky Trail Adventure bridge and beam course; splash about at the world class Alpamare Waterpark and make friends with the penguins at Scarborough Sea Life Sanctuary.

But despite its rich history, Scarborough doesn’t live in the past. The town is constantly innovating to keep its place as one of the most popular holiday destinations in the UK. Explore our website to find out more.

Whitby

Whitby is famous for many things: it's a traditional seaside resort with Blue Flag beaches, and has some of the best fish and chips around. But there's so much more to discover here...

Fish and chips and ice cream; history and culture; vampires and Goths: it’s all on offer at Whitby, one of the North East coast’s best-loved seaside towns.

With Blue Flag beaches and many attractions, including the world-famous steam North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Whitby is the perfect base for a family holiday. But it doesn’t end there. Whitby wallows in history, including fishing, the jet industry (did you know that it’s still the best place in the world to find the gleaming black gemstone so beloved by the Victorians?), Captain Cook (who was born nearby, and whose famous ship the Endeavour was Whitby-built) and whaling.

The Esk Valley

The Esk Valley has been made famous as the filming location for ITV's 'Heartbeat' programme. Just a short drive from Harwood Dale you'll find a selection of beautiful villages located on the banks of the River Esk which flows 28 miles from its source in Westerdale before emerging at Whitby.
